Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) has become a household term in all areas of manufacturing. Machine tools are inherently complex pieces of equipment. They should not however be complicated to maintain, service, and repair. Every time a routine maintenance task needs to be done it has the opportunity to take away from production time. Each extra hour to perform service or repairs has the same risk. Mitsui Seiki has committed to the principles of TPM. Our machines are designed without many of the fancy covers that inhibit access to areas of the equipment that might need service. Regular maintenance items are easily accessible, and as often as possible, centrally located, and well labeled. Maintenance task intervals have been extended for many items though improved design, and historical information. Service and repair tasks benefit from many of the same enhancements. Equipment documentation, and customer training also assist in minimizing down time for maintenance and repair duties. It is not only the customer who benefits from these TPM details, but our own manufacturing and field engineers as well.
